Handmade Siesta Man Lantern | Milagros Rústicos in Mesa, Arizona

If you've ever wandered into Milagros Rústicos, chances are you've met one of our favorite characters—the Siesta Man Lantern. With his oversized sombrero tipped low over his face, legs bent, and timeless expression of total relaxation, this little figure is more than decor—he's a whole vibe.

Handmade from hand-punched tin, our Siesta Man Lanterns are a customer favorite—and for good reason.

What Is a Siesta Man Lantern?

Each Siesta Man Lantern is a handcrafted tin sculpture depicting a man resting in the classic Mexican siesta pose—sitting with knees bent, arms relaxed, and sombrero covering his face.

These lanterns are both decorative and functional. You can:

  • Leave them unlit as eye-catching tabletop or shelf art

  • Place a candle or LED light inside for a warm glow

  • Wire them with a light fixture using the flap on the back

They look incredible day or night—and they’re often the first thing customers ask about when walking through our showroom.

They come in three main finishes:

  • Silver: The raw hand-punched tin for a traditional, folk-art feel

  • Bronze: Rich and rustic, with a burnished finish that catches candlelight beautifully

  • Painted: Bright, bold, and completely unique—no two are ever the same

Every painted Siesta Man is hand-decorated by artisans in Mexico. You’ll see flowers, musical notes, bold colors, and charming quirks on each one.

How to Style a Siesta Man Lantern

These lanterns are versatile enough to fit in a variety of homes and spaces. Here are a few of our favorite ways to use them:

  • On a console table in the entryway—add a small LED candle for a warm welcome

  • On a patio or porch as a laid-back conversation starter

  • Inside a rustic bookshelf or niche for a touch of whimsy

  • In a restaurant or cantina for playful, culturally inspired ambiance

Textiles of Tradition: Pillows, Blankets & Woven Accents

Explore our collection of handmade pillows, cowhide accents, and woven blankets—crafted by artisans in Peru and Mexico, only at our Mesa store.

Handmade Southwest wool pillow from Mexico

Handmade Southwest wool pillow.

What makes handmade textiles so special?
At Milagros Rústicos, we carry a collection of artisan-made pillows, blankets, and textiles that reflect generations of tradition and craftsmanship. These are not mass-produced accessories—they’re stories woven by hand using natural fibers, cultural patterns, and time-honored techniques.

Whether it’s a vibrant Brazilian throw or a rustic cowhide pillow, each piece adds warmth, texture, and character to your space.

Pillows with Soul

Our decorative pillows are anything but ordinary. Many are made from woven wool or cotton by artisans in Brazil and Mexico, with hand-dyed threads and traditional patterns that bring rustic charm into any room.

We also feature cowhide and leather pillows, ideal for Western-style interiors. These pillows add rugged contrast to soft furnishings and pair beautifully with wood, iron, and stone textures.

No two are ever alike—and that’s what makes them so special.

Artisan Blankets & Throws

Handwoven in Brazil and Mexico, our blankets are as functional as they are beautiful. Some are made with alpaca blends for softness and warmth, while others feature cotton or wool fibers dyed with natural pigments.

They look just as good folded over a sofa or draped across the foot of a bed as they do wrapped around your shoulders on a cool desert evening.

These blankets don’t just decorate a room—they ground it with texture, heritage, and color.

Rustic Accents that Warm the Room

In a space filled with reclaimed wood and iron details, textiles soften the edges and bring it all to life. A single woven piece can:

  • Add warmth to a leather sofa

  • Break up neutral tones with pattern and movement

  • Layer easily with wood, stone, and metal for a cozy, collected look

  • Introduce cultural storylines into modern homes

From rustic cabins to hacienda-style homes, these accents help bridge beauty and comfort.

Handblown Glass from Mexico: Why No Two Are Ever the Same

Our handblown glassware from Mexico is made using centuries-old techniques—no two pieces are ever the same. All sets are 25% off now through Sunday at 5 PM.

Handblown set with six margarita glasses and a pitcher. Handblown in Mexico.

Handblown set with six margarita glasses and a pitcher. Handblown in Mexico.

Handblown glassware from Mexico is more than functional—it’s art. At Milagros Rústicos, we carry an ever-changing selection of artisan-crafted drinking glasses and pitcher sets that reflect centuries of tradition and craftsmanship. Each piece is unique, and that’s exactly the point.

Why Handmade Glass is Never the Same Twice

True handblown glassware is created using age-old methods in small workshops throughout Mexico. Artisans work with molten, recycled glass—shaping it by hand and mouth-blown techniques without using molds or mass production tools.

This means no two pieces are ever identical. Variations in shape, color, and thickness are not flaws—they're the marks of authenticity. You might notice a swirl of color, a bubble in the glass, or a slight variation in height between tumblers. These are visual reminders that your set was made by hand, not machine.

At Milagros Rústicos, we celebrate these differences. When you pick up a glass, you're holding something with character—crafted with breath, fire, and intention.

Sale Now Through Sunday – 25% Off Glassware Sets

For a limited time, all handblown drinking glasses and pitcher sets are 25% off. This in-store-only promotion runs through Sunday at 5:00 PM.

Whether you're starting your collection or adding to one, this is a perfect opportunity to bring timeless, handcrafted glassware into your home. Each set is available only while supplies last—and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Visit us at our Mesa showroom to see the full selection in person.

Why Customers Love These Pieces

Customers return again and again for our handblown glass because of its weight, color, and quality. These pieces are ideal for everyday use or for entertaining. Many styles are available in coordinating sets, including matching tumblers and pitchers in shades of cobalt blue, aqua, amber, and multi-colored designs.

They also make thoughtful gifts—distinct, useful, and beautiful.

The 5 Best Woods for Mexican Furniture & Why They Matter

What types of wood are used in high-quality Mexican furniture?
At Milagros Rústicos, every piece of furniture is handcrafted using 100% solid wood—no veneers, no particle board, and no mass production. The woods we source are chosen for their beauty, durability, and cultural significance in traditional Mexican craftsmanship.

Reclaimed wood like this is used by our artisans in Mexico to create the handcrafted furniture we’re known for—solid, soulful, and one of a kind.

Here’s a guide to the five most iconic woods used in our rustic and Mexican furniture collections—and why they matter.

1. Mesquite: Dense, Durable & Distinct

Why is mesquite wood so highly valued in Mexican furniture?
Mesquite is one of the hardest, most durable hardwoods available. Native to northern Mexico and the American Southwest, its rich reddish-brown tones, bold grain patterns, and natural resistance to warping make it a favorite for heirloom-quality furniture.

At Milagros Rústicos, we offer handcrafted mesquite dining tables, chairs, and cabinets—each piece infused with the earthy character of the desert.

✔️ Extremely durable
✔️ Unique grain patterns
✔️ Ideal for dining tables, consoles & cabinetry

2. Pine: Traditional, Versatile & Rustic

Pine is a cornerstone of Mexican rustic furniture. It’s lighter in color, easy to work with, and perfect for showcasing hand-carved details and distressed finishes.

You’ll find pine in many of our most popular rustic pieces, from hand-carved armoires to side tables and bedroom sets. Its warm tone pairs beautifully with Southwestern and Western interiors.

✔️ Traditional rustic look
✔️ Perfect for hand-carving
✔️ Available in natural, stained, and waxed finishes

3. Sabino: Rare, Refined & Resilient

Sabino wood, native to Mexico, is known for its elegant reddish hue and fine, straight grain. It’s naturally resistant to insects and decay, making it both beautiful and practical.

We use sabino in custom-made pieces like sideboards, chests, and accent furniture that combine rustic style with elevated design.

✔️ Insect- and decay-resistant
✔️ Rich color & fine texture
✔️ Excellent for statement pieces

4. Mahogany: Smooth, Strong & Sophisticated

Mahogany has long been used in fine furniture for its strength and deep, luxurious color. In Mexican furniture, it’s often used for formal, detailed designs that highlight artisanal carving.

At Milagros Rústicos, we blend Mexican artistry with timeless elegance in our mahogany beds, dressers, and dining tables.

✔️ Deep reddish tones
✔️ Smooth, elegant texture
✔️ Excellent for carved and formal pieces

5. Parota: Bold, Contemporary & Naturally Striking

Parota (also known as Guanacaste) is a fast-growing tropical hardwood known for its wide planks, golden brown tones, and dramatic grain swirls.

We love using parota for large-scale furniture like dining tables, coffee tables, and entry consoles. It’s naturally insect-resistant and well-suited for Arizona’s dry climate.

✔️ Wide slabs for bold designs
✔️ Modern rustic appeal
✔️ Resistant to moisture & pests

FAQ: Woods Used in Handmade Mexican Furniture

Where are your woods sourced from?
Our woods are sourced directly from Mexico, with select pieces made from reclaimed wood that’s 80–100 years old.

Which wood is best for dining tables?
Mesquite and parota are both excellent for dining tables. They’re durable, visually stunning, and resistant to cracking or warping.

What’s the most rustic-looking wood?
Pine and mesquite are ideal for traditional rustic styles. Pine brings warmth and carving potential, while mesquite adds richness and character.
